GROUP CLASSES
BEHAVIOUR CONSULTING PRIVATE 1:1 TRAINING
HOW OLD SHOULD MY PUPPY BE TO START PUPPY CLASSES? 8 weeks old, and one week after receiving their first vaccination, and after your puppy has one week to settle into your home.
The sensitive socialization period runs approximately from age 3 weeks through 12 weeks. This is why choosing the right breeder is so important. A lack of quality socialization during puppy-hood can amount to a lifetime of unwanted behaviours and emotional trauma for dogs and the families that love them. The first 3 months of puppy-hood is the best opportunity we have to shape temperament and prevent behaviour problems from developing.
We can raise puppies to be more confident, less boisterous, less anxious, or less impulsive. Early socialization is one of the most beneficial things you can do for your puppy.
Our Safe Socialization Guidelines were created in concert with the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior, (avsab.org), who believe that it should be the standard of care for puppies to receive such socialization before they are fully vaccinated. The ideal age to start socialization with other puppies is at 8 weeks of age and after their first set of vaccinations.
K9Kind offers two Group Puppy Classes, Private Consultations and training plans suitable for puppies at any age of development to ensure every puppy gets a quality socialization and you get the answers you need now, while your puppy is still young.
Our Group classes, Puppy Kindergarten and Puppy Socials are all about socialization and teaching you how to introducing your puppy to new things. We teach you how to recognize if your puppy is shy, fearful, or overly-excited, and how to develop your puppy’s social skills and build confidence and develop impulse control.
You learn how to recognize whether or not your puppy is having a positive experience, and what to do if your puppy is shy, overwhelmed, or over-excited, and how to safely socialize your puppy beginning one-week after their first vaccinations.
PUPPY KINDERGARTEN group class consists of SIX (6) 1-hour classes, ONCE a week.
• Safe socialization with other puppies
• Bite inhibition (Gentle jaws)
• How to socialize your puppy with people
• How to socialize your puppy to an abundance of socialization to various sounds, objects and experiences
• Prevent fear, anxiety, excitability and aggression
• Fear-free visits to the veterinarian and groomer
• Pain-free and fear-free nail trimming
• Noise phobia prevention to common things such as fireworks and thunder storms
• Prevent jumping on people
• Prevent pulling on leash from the beginning
• Teach a reliable recall before adolescence and independence.
• Crate and isolation training (separation anxiety prevention)
• Prevent resource guarding and learn to share with you and other puppies
Our online education is where we teach you about how puppies learn, and the theory behind the lessons, in the comfort of your home instead of the classroom where you are already multi-tasking. The Puppy Kindergarten class is much more than a 6-hour class and it begins with a training and socialization plan that you can start with your dog today!
Each week we send you step-by-step training guides of the class topics that you can start doing with your puppy at home so you learn how to use everyday situations as socialization and teaching opportunities. You can download, save, and share these handouts with your whole family.
In the PUPPY KINDERGARTEN class there are puppies of all breeds and sizes. Puppies are divided into appropriate play groups so no puppy is overwhelmed and every socialization experience is a positive one!
Maximum of 8 pups in each class.
Puppy Kindergarten is held at the Little Red Church in Comox.

You puppy will have positive socialization experiences with other puppies, people, sounds, objects, and unique activities. And for the pups that just can’t get enough playing with other puppies, they learn impulse control and how to adjust to other puppies’ play-style and comfort level.
Whether your pup is shy, boisterous, or just loves to play, this one-time, one-hour play-date is a safe place where your puppy can learn and develop social skills with other pups and have a variety of positive socialization experiences.

For puppies between 14 weeks and 16 weeks of age, we recommend the LATE BLOOMER PACKAGE
The best age to socialization your puppy starts from the time they come home, going for outings one week after their first vaccination, and before 12-weeks old. But that does not mean the window of opportunity to socialize your puppy slams shut! Puppies who start socialization late, but have a broad range of positive experiences, can catch up on their puppyhood education and socialization under the guidance of qualified trainers in our various puppy services.
We recommend that you book two Puppy Consultations, one in-home where we can help you with daily puppy routines, and one in our classroom, where we can see your puppy outside their environment. In addition to a consultation, we also recommend booking Puppy Socials between now and when your puppy reaches 5 months old. As well, we recommend joining the Canine Essentials group class when your puppy reaches 4 months old.

I adopted two shelter dogs who were terrified when we tried to clip their nails. The vet had to put them out to do it for us. I consulted with Carrie, who worked with the dogs for a short time, and we have since been able to use positive reinforcement to get the job done quickly and efficiently, with no stress to them at all. Also worked for barking, whining and handling thunderstorms. Superb!!!

We had a wonderful experience with positive reinforcement training for our German Shepherd with Carrie - she was so informative, kind with us and our dog -- the result = a delightfully sweet disposition and super obedient 4 year old Shepherd who is amazing with kids, adults and our kitten :)
Sharmeen
Great training courses, well structured, organized and accommodating.
I would not hesitate to bring another pup or adult dog who needed some additional aid with training to K9 Kind.
The one on one training was incredibly helpful also!

Scout’s Dad
We attended puppy kindergarten. She is absolute magic with dogs - any dogs.

We took our 8 month old, high energy Labrador Retriever puppy (Teddy) to K9 Kind puppy kindergarten classes. Carrie and Kaoru are very good at what they do! They were patient and skilled at making our very excited puppy do exactly what they asked of him and teaching us how to be better puppy parents. They gave us the tools to continue training him at home which has made a world of difference. Our pup is now very well trained, even off leash, which we thought would never happen. Thank you Carrie and Kaoru! We highly recommend K9 Kind.
Jake Bapty
As a professional dog trainer and behaviour consultant, I have the opportunity to refer clients to Carrie on a regular basis, I am more than happy to do this, as her professional, friendly and helpful attitude all make her someone I am proud to be in the dog training profession with. Oh! And she is also good at training dogs, too! :)
Lynne Fedorick
I did the obedience 1 training with my 8 month old puppy and it was worth every penny. K9 kind do a great job of breaking down positive reinforcement training and both my dog and I are better for it. Would highly recommend.
Summer Scott
I brought both my dogs (German Shepherd cross & Blue heeler) to K9 kind Obedience Classes and had a positive, educational experience. Carrie takes time with each dog and handler to help with specific issue or questions. Classes were fun and good mix of real life situations and take home practice!
